UNLV Reloads Around Jackson Arnold After a 10-Win Breakthrough
2026 Preseason OutlookUNLV comes off a 10-3 season and answered it not by standing pat but by going out and getting Jackson Arnold, the Auburn transfer who arrives as the headline addition of a fifteen-player incoming class. Anthony Colandrea, who quarterbacked that 10-win run, is now at Nebraska, and the program also lost receivers Jaden Bradley and Troy Omeire to the portal. That's real offensive production walking out the door, but the incoming haul — Arnold chief among it, plus receiver Amorion Walker from Middle Tennessee and tight end Keyan Burnett from Arizona — is why the offense still profiles as above average. The defense, by contrast, projects below average even though its returning pieces are comparatively stable, which is the more concerning half of the ledger given how much the offense is being asked to carry. Special teams should again be a quiet strength. The net effect is a team that grades out roughly average overall, with the offensive identity almost entirely tied to how quickly Arnold and the new skill talent gel — the kind of concentrated turnover that makes the offensive line's 87% return rate matter more than it otherwise would.
JP+ projects 8.0 wins, a solid number for a team replacing this much offensive production and outfitted with a new starting quarterback. The toughest tests come at Air Force, at home against Cal, and on the road at North Texas, while home dates with Wyoming, Nevada, and Northern Illinois look like the most manageable path to bowl eligibility again. The gap between last year's 10-win level and this year's projection comes down to replacing Colandrea's production and stitching together a receiving corps without Bradley and Omeire, even with Arnold's arrival as a clear offensive upgrade. If Arnold settles in quickly and the defense holds its ground, this is a team that competes for the top of the league again. If the offense needs time to gel around a new quarterback and receivers, an 8-win floor feels like the realistic outcome.
